The International Society of Pharmacogenomics (ISP)
The International Society of Pharmacogenomics (ISP) has been established to bring together investigators worldwide in this emerging new field that integrates the latest advances in genomics to clinical pharmacology and therapeutics. The International Society of Pharmacogenomics is an independent body without any affiliation to institutions, and without direct institutional/administrative ties to any companies.
It was established in 2001 as a non-profit society to promote research into Pharmacogenomics: the influence of the human genome on response to medication. Pharmacogenomics searches for markers of drug response (such as DNA polymorphisms or gene expression changes), related to drug target, drug metabolism, or disease. It uses genomic technologies such as gene expression analysis, molecular genetics and transgenics. It encompasses both clinical response as well as adverse side effects and other physiological changes and can be applied to drugs in development as well as those in current use.
The International Society of Pharmacogenomics is a cross-disciplinary group of scientists/investigators who cover the fields of Pharmacogenomics with special efforts on science as well as outreach (policy and education). The ISP covers issues that are of broad interest and that cut across various fields and disciplines.
